This use case proposes the development of a website using data from the "Tenerife Waste Management" and "Tenerife Waste Treatment Facilities" datasets to promote and optimize recycling on the island.
This website will allow users to geolocate the nearest recycling points, such as clean points, packaging plants and environmental complexes and obtain information on the types of waste that can be deposited at each facility. It will also include opening hours and updated statistics on the amount of waste collected and recycled on the island.
In addition, as an added value related to recycling and sustainability, the website could provide notifications through a newsletter about local recycling campaigns, workshops and beach clean-up events focused on responsible tourism. Tourists will be able to access educational sections on how to recycle on the island, helping to encourage responsible tourism and minimizing their environmental impact during their visit.
Data sets used
- Tenerife waste management. Detailed data on waste collection at each of the island's facilities, by type and volume.
- Tenerife waste treatment facilities. Georeferenced data on the different clean points, transfer plants and packaging plants in Tenerife.

Users can explore an interactive map, like the one shown in the Cabildo de Tenerife Open Data Portal. These users can see information on the type of facility (clean point, packaging plant, environmental complex, etc.), the address, the municipality or the opening and closing hours.
2. Up-to-date information on recycling
Users can access data and statistics such as the amount of waste collected in each municipality or facility or the types of waste, in a selected period of time, allowing them to see the impact of recycling on the island.
3. Newsletter notifications and alerts
Users can receive alerts about local recycling campaigns, sustainable events, waste collection days or ecological workshops. Example for tourists: alerts for events such as "Beach clean-up campaign" or "Creative recycling workshops".
4. Education and awareness
The website can contain an interactive section dedicated to teaching users the importance of recycling and how to do it correctly, explaining what types of waste go where. For example, a guide for tourists on how to reduce their environmental footprint while exploring the island or content on ecotourism.
