Open call for participation in the II Open Data Contest: APP Development
The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife continues to promote the reuse of public data with the new call for the II Cabildo de Tenerife Open Data Contest: APP Development, an initiative that seeks to recognize and reward the development of web or mobile applications based on the datasets of the Cabildo's Open Data portal, datos.tenerife.es.
This second contest is set with the objective of giving continuity to the process initiated with the I Open Data Contest: Reuse Ideas, focused on the presentation of ideas. On this occasion, the users who apply for the II Contest must create a complete and functional app.
The call is aimed at both individuals and legal entities, which may submit one or more applications, individually or jointly. The same person, whether natural or legal, may submit as many nominations as they wish, either individually or jointly.
The deadline for submitting proposals will be open in the call for proposals on the Cabildo's Electronic Headquarters until March 10, 2026.
The competition has a total of 6,000 euros in prizes, divided into three categories:
- First prize: 3,000 euros
- Second prize: 2,000 euros
- Third prize: 1,000 euros
Requirements and evaluation
The proposals must be submitted in digital format and include, among other elements, a detailed technical description of the application with a minimum of 2,000 characters, the report justifying the use of open data, information on the technological environments used, a video explaining how the APP works, the complete source code and a technical summary.
As for the evaluation, the jury will take into account factors such as the degree of use of the portal's open data, the public utility and social and economic value of the application, its originality, creativity and innovative nature, as well as the technical quality of the development and source code. Likewise, the visual design, usability (UX) and digital accessibility will be evaluated, ensuring the correct functioning of the application on both Android and iOS devices.
The Cabildo's Open Data Portal
The Open Data Portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife publishes data sets of both the Cabildo itself and the entities that are part of its institutional public sector. Since the launch of the current portal datos.tenerife.es in 2023, more than 250 datasets have been reached, available for consultation and reuse in different formats.
We encourage to consult within the portal some examples of solutions created from open data, such as the application "Tu Guagua APP" in the section of apps and companies within the "Reutiliza" section.
