Metadata Audit of the Cabildo de Tenerife Open Data portal

Red.es confirms the excellent quality of the portal's dataset metadata

The open data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife has passed the audit carried out by Red.es, based on the metadata quality assessment methodology proposed by the European Data Portal, with excellent qualifications .

Red.es is a Public Business Entity, attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. Red.es promotes and develops the Digital Agenda, in addition to managing, in coordination with other state, regional and local administrations and public bodies, various programs for the development of the information society.

Red.es promotes the Digital Agenda in Spain andparticipates in the "Contribute to the Information Society" initiative. and participates in the "Aporta"initiative , which promotes the opening of public data and the reuse of public sector information, in collaboration with datos.gob.es, the platform that serves as a meeting point between administrations, companies and citizens interested in open data in Spain and with which the open data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife is federated.

In this context, Red.es, within the framework of the support actions for open data publishing organizations in the datos.gob.es catalog , performs customized auditing tasks for organizations interested in analyzing the way in which metadata is adjusted in accordance with the NTI-RISP.

With the aim of improving the quality of such metadata, the open data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife has undergone the Red.es audit, which is based on the selection and analysis of a sample of published datasets. Specifically, the 201 datasets published on the portal as of December 31, 2024 have been analyzed .

The methodology used for the analysis of metadata quality focused on a structured evaluation aimed at providing practical recommendations. Three main dimensions were evaluated in this analysis: discovery, interoperability and context.

Among the conclusions obtained about the Cabildo de Tenerife's Open Data portal, the following stand out:

  • the organization of datasets is adequate

  • the metadata of mandatory use of datasets and resources are always declared

  • data dictionaries associated with the datasets are included, modeled according to W3C recommendations.

  • in general, highly reusable formats, such as CSV or JSON, are included.

Among other recommendations provided, the importance of the use of metadata recommended for use in datasets (temporal coverage, spatial coverage, validity, related resources or regulations) and in distributions (additional information related to the format of the distributions and identifier) is highlighted.

In short, an audit that the open data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife has passed with excellent marks and has allowed it to obtain different recommendations, which will allow it to continue improving the quality of the metadata andcontribute tothe reuse, dissemination and disclosure of information.
