We now know the winning apps from the II Concurso de Datos Abiertos del Cabildo de Tenerife: Desarrollo de APP
The II Concurso de Datos Abiertos del Cabildo de Tenerife: Desarrollo de APP has announced its winners. This competition, launched through the Tenerife Island Council’s Open Data portal, aims to promote the reuse of open data published on datos.tenerife.es through the creation of apps that provide social, economic, or civic value.
From choosing a place to live to accessing public resources or supporting the agricultural sector, this second edition has recognized three proposals with different objectives but all with a significant public benefit component.
TenerifeLifeScore, First Prize
The first prize, worth 3,000 euros, was awarded to the team—composed of Alejandro Delgado Valera, Tomás Santana Suárez , and Aythami Lorenzo Padilla— for the TenerifeLifeScore app.
TenerifeLifeScore is a tool designed to facilitate decision-making when choosing where to live in Tenerife. Using open data from the Cabildo, the app evaluates the quality of life in different areas of the island through a personalized system.
The winning team consists of three students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science and Engineering program at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), who developed this tool with the goal of applying their knowledge to a real-world project with social impact.
Tenerife Cerca, Second Prize
The second prize, worth 2,000 euros, was awarded to Carlos Roberto Rodríguez Díaz for the Tenerife Cerca app.
Tenerife Cerca transforms open data from the Tenerife Island Council into a smart map of public services and local resources. The app allows users to find information on public transportation, health centers, hiking trails, nature routes, accommodations, and points of interest; it also includes an accessibility module that helps users locate parking spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM) and other adapted resources available on the island.
DataCultivo, Third Prize
The third prize, worth 1,000 euros, was also awarded to Carlos Roberto Rodríguez Díaz for the DataCultivo app.
DataCultivo is an app designed to facilitate the reuse of agricultural and agroclimatic data published by the Tenerife Island Council. The tool integrates, for example, information from weather stations, daily prices of agricultural products, and phytosanitary alerts.
Its goal is to present this information in a more accessible and useful way for people involved in or interested in the agricultural sector.
Carlos Roberto Rodríguez Díaz is a civil servant at the Canary Islands Commission for Transparency and Access to Public Information. Passionate about technology, data, and access to public information, he develops digital tools designed to transform data into clearer and more accessible information for the public and publishes his projects on his website, robertorguez.com.
Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will take place on September 21, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Canary Islands time (12:30 p.m. mainland Spain time), during a virtual event where the winning apps will be presented in greater detail and the work of their creators will be recognized.
