The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife has announced the "I Open Data Competition: Ideas for Reuse", with the aim of recognizing the realization of projects that provide any study, service, educational resource, website or application for mobile devices, with the use of data from the portal datos.tenerife.es.
The presentation period is 3 months and is open until October 23, 2024, as regulated in the rules, which can be consulted at the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo de Tenerife. The contest will award prizes of 6,000 euros, divided into a first prize of 3,000 euros, a second prize of 2,000 euros and a third prize of 1,000 euros.
Nominations may be submitted by both individuals and legal entities, except for public administrations and those who have participated directly or indirectly in the call for entries. In addition, the same person or entity may submit as many proposals as they wish.
The ideas submitted must include at least one set of data from the portal. The format will be digital, with a minimum of 5,000 characters. Among the requirements established is that they must state the problem they solve, which data sets they use, what would be the target audience of the proposal they make and in which platform it would be developed (web, mobile...), among others.
The jury will evaluate the use of data from the portal; the viability of the proposals; the quality of their presentation; their public utility and social value; their originality, creativity and innovative character; and their potential to generate business and obtain economic profitability.
The awards will be announced through the usual channels of the Cabildo de Tenerife and on the portal datos.tenerife.es.
With this Open Data Contest, the Cabildo de Tenerife is making a commitment to innovation, digital transformation, transparency, knowledge and the generation of added economic value, thanks to the availability of numerous data, which can be freely consulted and reused.
As a result of this work, since the launch of the current portal datos.tenerife.es, in March 2023, more than 200 datasets have already been disseminated and more than 3,000 distributions have been made. The Cabildo's portal provides access to datasets from the island's own entity, as well as from the Consejo Insular de Aguas de Tenerife (CIATF), Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (TITSA), Sociedad Insular para la Promoción de las Personas con Discapacidad (SINPROMI), Instituto Insular de Atención Social y Sociosanitaria (IASS), Metropolitano de Tenerife (Metrotenerife) and Mercatenerife.
But the objective of the Cabildo is not only to make available all these data sets but, especially, to promote their reuse. For this reason, after the celebration of this first contest, and based on the same objectives, the Cabildo will call for a second edition, "II Open Data Contest Cabildo de Tenerife: APP Development". This will be a second phase of this process of reuse of open data in which the development of an APP (an application), which reuses, precisely, open data, will be awarded .
In short, a further boost to transparency, accountability and open government, in parallel to economic growth and the development of new business initiatives.
