Open data Tenerife (Canary Islands) hydrological resources

The Open Data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife continues its commitment to the dissemination of useful data for citizens, administrations and companies. With this objective, since March, it has incorporated 7 new data sets on the structure of territorial drainage and sources of water supply on the island of Tenerife, provided by the Consejo Insular de Aguas de Tenerife (CIATF).

The use of open data, to which the Cabildo de Tenerife is fully committed, is essential to achieve an administration that is transparent for citizens and companies and, under this perspective, work is being carried out in the portal datos.tenerife.es to incorporate new information.

Open data on hydrological resources

Thus, it is possible to consult the Island Catalog of watercourses in the public domain of Tenerife, which includes more than 7,000 records indicating, among other data, whether they are public watercourses or not. It also includes information on the main basins, sub-basins and tributary basins of the island .

TheGroundwater Collection Worksdata set for theisland of Tenerife includes georeferenced information on the wells, galleries and springs existing on the island. The data are in GeoPackage, CSV and GeoJSON formats.Information such as the depth and flow rate of the wells or the length and flow rate of the galleries can be found.

As an example, among the 313 springs existing on the Island of Tenerife, it can be seen that 27.80% are located in Garachico, 15.65% in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 10.22% in San Juan de la Rambla.

The portal datos.tenerife.es also makes it possible to consult and reuse data from the Tenerife Hydrological Plan, approved in September 2023 (third planning cycle), such as those referring to groundwater catchment works, hydrogeological zoning or the bodies of water included in the plan.

In short, 7 sets of data made available by the Cabildo, to contribute to strengthen the transparency of the information available to the administrations and promote its reuse.
