On May 16, the Open Data portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife will star in the Webinar "Creating opportunities" of the "Cátedra Caja Siete of Big Data, Open Data and Blockchain" of the University of La Laguna (link to for registration) with the aim of publicizing cases of reuse by companies and administrations and possible ways of use for the development of new innovative solutions.
Boosting innovation
The Tenerife Open Data portal has become an essential platform for the dissemination and disclosure of open data by the Cabildo of Tenerife and its island organizations, with over 200 datasets currently included.
In this context, one of the pillars on which the importance of open data is based is the reuse of this data for the generation of new economic opportunities, the development of new solutions and the application of data for decision making.
Under this perspective, the Open Data team of the Cabildo de Tenerife will give the Webinar "Creating opportunities: How to use Tenerife Open Data to drive innovation". The session, at 10:00 a.m., can be followed through Google Meet and subsequently viewed through the Youtube channel created by the Cátedra Caja Siete.
The Webinar will analyze the current context of open data in Spain and the Canary Islands; the importance of open data in the framework of meeting the Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN in 2015 will be presented and practical cases of use will be explained in detail, including the development of a App linked to smart and sustainable tourism.
With the dissemination of open data the Cabildo deepens its compliance with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) established by the UN in 2015. The opening of relevant data has proven to be an essential way for administrations and organizations to improve development and economic aid programs, by favoring more informed decision-making on resource allocation, and a central element of transparency and accountability.
But, undoubtedly, one of the key aspects in which the relevance of Open Data can be measured is its contribution to economic growth and job creation, by enabling companies, researchers and entrepreneurs to use this data to develop innovative solutions.
Cases of open data reuse
For this reason, the Webinar will present the different possibilities of creating opportunities that open up thanks to the data sets that are included in the portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife.
Specifically, it will be shown how the data included in the categories of Tourism, Environment and Urban Planning can be used to develop practical solutions that can be applied by both companies and administrations.
In addition, the Open Data team of the Cabildo de Tenerife will show its own APP, developed for IOS, which reuses the data included in transport, tourism or environment to offer a useful alternative to get to know Tenerife.
In this way, the Webinar will delve into the use of open data through applications adapted to mobile devices, developments with Power BI and its implementation on web pages.
In short, an opportunity to address not only the importance of open data in the current context but also to explore possible ways of use, allowing administrations, companies or entrepreneurs to get the most out of the open data of the Cabildo de Tenerife.
