March 2024: anniversary of the Open Data portal

March 2024: anniversary of the Open Data portal

The new Open Data Portal of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which replaced the Tenerife Data portal, has completed its first year of operation , with more than 200 datasets made available to citizens, companies, researchers and institutions, to promote their knowledge and reuse.

During this first year, the new Open Data Portal datos.tenerife.es has shown itself to be a living platform, in continuous growth, thanks to the different services and areas that make up the Cabildo and its public sector, which have allowed the platform to have 205 datasets and more than 3,600 distributions.

The Cabildo's portal has become the second largest dataset contributor to the Canary Islands Government's open data website, behind only the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC). In addition, the federation of its data with the state portal datos.gob.es and with the European portal data.europa.eu allows the data made available to citizens and companies to be consulted also at national and European level.

Among the novelties of the portal, in recent months, is the important inclusion of data corresponding to the island's water resources, provided by the Tenerife Island Water Council, referring to the Hydrological Plan, groundwater catchment works and the basins and sub-basins of the island.

In its commitment to sustainability, the portal has also been nourished with data sets on the energy consumption of the infrastructures of the Cabildo de Tenerife and has reinforced the contents related to transportation, with the inclusion of information on bus and streetcar lines and stops, the origins and destinations of the main routes of travelers on the Island or incidents on roads.

The inclusion of training articles and informative videos on Youtube and the regular publication of content on Twitter Cabildo de Tenerife, Facebook Cabildo de Tenerife and Linkedin strengthen, in parallel, the objective of bringing the usefulness of open data to citizens, companies and institutions and publicize the important work carried out by the Cabildo de Tenerife and its institutions.

To continue promoting the use of open data during 2024, the Cabildo of Tenerife will call the first Open Data Contest, aimed at rewarding ideas for the reuse of the data contained in the portal, with a clear vocation of permanence and viability, to promote its use at citizen and economic level.

In short, a year since the launch of the portal has reflected the commitment of the Cabildo de Tenerife to transparency, accountability and open government.
